Indianapolis Colts at New Orleans Saints Odds: Back the Saints to cover the spread

The late game in the NFL this Sunday night sees the Indianapolis Colts travel to the Superdome to take on the New Orleans Saints. At the start of the season this would have been a must watch game and that is why it was chosen as a prime time match-up. However, with Peyton Manning out for the season and the Colts currently winless, this is expected to be a blowout for New Orleans.

The Saints, 14 point favourites over the Colts at 18/19 with Unibet, are 4-2 in the NFC South. Their four game winning streak was snapped last weekend when they were beaten 26-20 by division rivals the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Saints seemed to be in the game until coach Sean Peyton injured his leg on the sideline after a player crashed into him. Without his play-calling the Saints looked rudderless for the rest of the game and didn’t know how to run the offence.

The defence also gave up big passing numbers to the Bucs quarterback Josh Freeman and allowed 117 rushing yards on the ground. These are all areas the Saints will need to work on but they shouldn’t be too troubled on Sunday night.

Many expected the Colts offence to get even worse when Curtis Painter came in as quarterback after Kerry Collins went out inured but he hasn’t been too bad at all recently. He actually gives the team a chance to win and keeps the Colts in games. They are coming off the back of 27-17 loss to the 4-2 Cincinnati Bengals. There is still a lot of talent on the Colts offense but it still is not as clinical as when Manning is under centre. Also the Colts rushing offence is terrible at the moment and they are ranked 28th in the league and are averaging just 84 yards per game.

A -14 point spread does seem like a lot to cover on Sunday and many will be thinking totake the Colts along with the handicap. The Colts played two prime time games in week three and four and covered the spread both times against the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, this time they are on the road and it will be much harder to play in the intense atmosphere of the Louisiana Superdome. The Saints also didn’t perform well last week in their loss and they will be looking to bounce straight back with a convincing win.
