The Superbowl odds for Sunday's American Football extravaganza in Miami between the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints are suggesting that the 800 million viewers around the world should be expecting a Colts win with Bet365 installing the 2007 Superbowl winners as the 1/2 favourites. However, impressive performances throughout the season together with the good form of the underdogs in recent Superbowl history will ensure that the Saints will not be short of backers at attractive odds of 17/10.
Both teams finished the season ranked number one in their respective conferences, the Saints finishing #1 in the NFC with a 13-3 record and the Colts #1 in the AFC with a 14-2 record. Both took advantage of home field advantage in the playoffs to book their trips to Dolphin Stadium in Miami but depsite little seperating the teams in the stats, the Colts are favourites to win the Superbowl XLIV. Bookmakers and Sportsbooks on both sides of the Atlantic seem agreed in setting the line so that the Colts must overcome a -4.5 point start. However, anybody rushing to back the Colts at 10/11 to win by five points or more should consider that just three favourites in the past 10 Superbowls have managed to cover their point spread and the Saints receiving a +4.5 point start (also odds of 10/11) looks the best bet in this market based on that trend alone.

In the total points scored in the game betting, the quote of over or under 56.5 points sounds out that this is expected to be a high scoring game, and understandably so! The Saints offense is ranked number one in the NFL, averaging a total of 32 points per game, whilst the Colts aren't too far behind averaging 26 points per game. That is before considering that this is a must win game for both teams and could well turn in to a shootout! Fans can also expect to see plenty of plays through the air and passing touchdowns should be aplenty with Quarterbacks, Drew Brees of the Saints and Peyton Manning of the Colts leading the NFL for touch down passes this season with 40 and 39 respectively and 4/6 about more than four touchdown passes in the game looks a safe bet.
The key 'go to' players for Manning and Brees in the end zone are Reggie Wayne for the Colts who is 7/1 to score the first touchdown and Marques Colston for the Saints who is 17/2 to be first to put six points on the scoreboard. Other players likely to be in the hunt for touchdowns include Colts running back, Joseph Addai, who is 6/1 to score the first TD of the game or 4/6 anytime, whilst Dallas Clark, the Indianapolis Tight End will be looking to add to his eleven scoring plays this season and can be backed at 17/2. For the Saints, Reggie Bushes poses a huge threat with the ability to score on the ground, catching passes or even as a punt returner and the former number one draft pick is a tempting 6/5 to score a touch down at anytime.
Both the Colts and the Saints have the personnel Offensively and in Defense, capable of winning this game and it could well be decided by luck or which of the two teams can mentally handle the emotions and pressure of what is one of the biggest sporting occasions in any sport around the world. Many of the Colts players have the experience of winning Superbowl XLI in 2007, which coincidentally was also played at Dolphin Stadium in Miami and that could prove vital. In comparison, it will be new for most of the Saints players and with the franchise never having appeared in a Superbowl before in its 43 year history, the pressure could not be greater. However, the Saints do have the support of many neutrals ahead of this game who will see a Superbowl win a fitting response to the turmoils and devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina which hit the city of New Orleans just five years ago and it is something that many of the Saints players have been using as motivation in the build up to the game.
Whether it is the Colts or Saints who are crowned Superbowl XLIV champions remains to be seen but one thing is certain, excitement is guaranteed!
